The NCAA men’s basketball championship is a showcase sporting event that affords institutions to the ability to showcase the talents of its athletics department, while providing fans with the opportunity to be a part of something larger than themselves. 68 teams, 6 rounds, 1 winner. The NCAA tournament is a tournament unlike any other. Teams and individual players put it all on the line for one goal, to be a champion. March is not only mad in the way of upsets and showdowns, but also in the crazy amount of money that goes into this enormous event. Economics play a huge role in the NCAA March Madness.
For this project a metric would be used to predict who was going to win the 2017 March Madness Tournament. The metric consists of a team’s RPI and two stats that have a strong correlation coefficient to how the teams finished in the 2016 tournament. The Rating Percentage Index (RPI)is a ranking system that is used to determine a team 's rank in the tournament and during the regular season. The two stats had to have a moderate correlation to how the last 16 teams in the 2016 tournament finished. Also a scatter plot was used to display two different stats and how they correlated.
Should College Football Replace the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) with a Playoff System? Many football fans including me argue that a playoff system should replace the BCS. They contend that it is the only fair way to determine a national champion and that the BCS method is subjective, profit-motivated, and sometimes leaves the best teams out of the championship game. They should change this because it doesnt make sence to have college football teams go against each other in a national championship while eight other top teams play in four bowl games.they should have playoff games like in the NFl instead of having a lot of Bowl games. This was formed in 1998 I strongly disagree with the playoff system they use in college its just not fair to others because It 's not fair because the sec, acc, big 12, PAC 12, and big 10 automatically have the playoff spots with one champion being left out.
Amatuer, is that a verb that accuratly describes the modern day billion dollar industry that is collegiate sports? The NCAA insists that it does; saying that collegiate sports is not, and should never be, considered a business. Contrary to the implication of the NCAA collegiate sports, specifically men’s football and basketball, have over the recent years hauled in a yearly revenue similar to that of the NBA. But, unlike the Professional league of the NBA; Collegiate “student-athletes” specifically men’s football and basketball players lack the compensation for their services that NBA players get. The implication that collegiate sports are amatuer are false, due to the implementation of “ big business” in the NCAA and Colleges and Universities

Ever since its debut by gym teacher Dr. James Naismith in 1891 basketball has become a widely popularized team sport for both men and women across the nation. Though enjoyed by both men and women, women have struggled to attain the same respect in the sport as men, even though the women at the University of California had their first extramural game in 1892. The same trend continues in the NBA, National Basketball Association, and WNBA, Women’s National Basketball. The NBA started 70 years ago in 1946 while the WNBA began 20 years ago in 1996. The NBA continues to gain popularity, while the WNBA struggles to still be known.
The Injustice of the NCAA The NCAA is making an extremely large profit on the amateur athletic performance of student athletes, without them seeing a penny. The NCAA earns around 1.5-2.0 billion dollars on average every year (compared to the NFL at 1.0-2.0 billion dollars as well). They are additionally qualifying themselves as a non-profit organization, therefore not having to pay taxes on any of the money they receive. College athletes should be able to receive an allowance, besides the scholarships they receive, because many students struggle to get through the week, paying for food, clothing, and other essential items. Student athletes, as stated in bylaw 15.01.2 of the NCAA handbook, are not allowed to take any handout or financial help
