During the Vietnam war a draft was put into place. The draft required all able males between 18-26 to join the war. Although it was deemed necessary, was it constitutionally right? All able bodied adults between the ages 18 to 40 should not be subject to to required military service due to three reasons: if an individual is not self motivated to join the military their actions and attitude will be negative; in certain situations people aren’t able to take time away from their obligations because they are the sole provider; if the government obligated people to require military service it would create enormous conflicts between the people and government.
The first reason military service should not be required is if an individual is not self motivated to join the military their actions and attitude will be negative. For example, any command, made to an individual that is not willing to be there on their own, will not successfully be followed. The individual receiving the command will fight back. Considering only a few people in each unit might feel this way some may refute and claim that this is not a big problem, but in the military you have to work as a unit. For example, many people have to take on the role as a single parent when raising their children, if they were required to join the military there would not be anyone to provide for their children. Yes, many individuals have family members that could take on the role as the parent while their loved one was serving, but what happens when you do not have any family or your family is not physically able to take care of anyone else but themselves? If you are the sole provider for another individual that is not able to thrive on their own you can not abandon
