Money should not buy you happiness. That being said, it is a person’s right to save and spend their money on the events they choose. Even if these events can be referred to as selfish, it is still their money that they earned. Some people think that everyone should have an equal amount of money so no one is poor, however, if everyone has an equal amount that would eliminate the drive for achievement that leads to success. Yes, it is an incredible gesture to donate to charity. That being said, it should be the person’s choice to donate their extra money; they should not be forced. People often endeavor to be in a higher social class. Theses social classes are evident in many classic novels; for instance, the Great Gatsby. This novel is full of extravagant events and parties. On the one hand, many people might use this as an example of why to give up extra money. On the other hand, taking Gatsby’s money would eliminate other’s urges to acquire money like Gatsby and join his social class. If there were no social classes, it would increase the poverty level because people would stop working to be better, they are already equal. This comes back to the natural urge people feel. This urge is what causes people like Gatsby to keep working for their money, but it also causes the people in lower social classes to keep working to climb the social ladder. Other countries have already tried, and are still trying, the no social classes strategy. These countries are under the rule of communism. These countries apparently assume that communism will better their social climate and in return, better their economy. However, in these societies all workers are paid the same. When everyone is paid the same, no one is going to work hard to get a raise because they are already being paid the highest they can. The exact same way as, if the rich gives all extra money to the poor, they are no longer rich and no longer have the work ethic they did before.
