D-Day. In the 1939 the second world war broke out in Europe against the allies (Britain, Canada, the USA and France) and the allied powers (Germany, Italy, Japan and Russia) – source A- after Hitler and the Nazis invaded Poland and the allies declared war because they had made an agreement that they would protect Poland from the Germany in the peace treaty after world war I. this war went on longer than the first one and some allies only entered the war later such as America who joined after the bombing of pearl harbour as for Hitler built a very strong army, making it hard 6 years of war. D-Day was just one of the many brutal attacks from this war. D-day was the surprise attack on the French beaches on 6 June 1944. So Roosevelt, Churchill and Stalin met face to face to discuss what was going to happen to Germany and this is where the attack was planned they had to plan this out carefully. They planned to attack on the 1st of May 1944. This attack was codenamed “Operation Overlord”- Source D- “The timing was important to allow for the right weather, a full moon and tidal condition.”- Source D- This was planned for a long period of time. A lot of time and effort went into the planning of ‘operation overlord’. They decided that they were not going to attack Calais were the Nazi military was strongest but Normandy were they did not expect them to attack.- Source A- A Spanish double agent convinced the Nazi that the attack was in Calais.
