Patience
Patience is a virtue everybody needs but it isn’t something everybody has. At some point in every person’s life, they will come into contact with a situation that requires patience, and it is imperative that this skill is used. There are many times in my life where I have had to be patient. However, there is one situation which I remember indistinctly. I was in the twelfth grade, when I came upon a circumstance where I was demanded patience. This experience, although not particularly life threatening nor scary, it was intense and quite worrisome. The sport of wrestling is one of the hardest sports on earth, it isn’t just physically difficult, it is mentally and socially hard. Going on wrestling trips with the high school is a normality, however this trip was anything but normal. The Worland High School Wrestling team and I were all in Green River Wyoming for their dual tournament. After a tough first day of contest, we were walking back to our hotel rooms by way of the elevator. The team decided it was a fairly decent idea to fit fourteen people into the machine. However, we did not realize what we were waltzing into. The doors closed behind us and we were ready to take the ride up a floor. Then the elevator got stuck. We were trapped in the steel cage for twenty minutes before we were rescued. After ten minutes of being in the metal box, everyone began to become a little hysterical and anxious. Being our team’s captain, I was given the responsibility to watch out for the team and lead the team safely. I began telling the other guys in the elevator to relax, and that help was coming soon. They wouldn’t listen to me and then I realized I had one thing on my side, patience. I quieted myself, and started calmly speaking to the coach that was with us. I talked loud enough so the many people hear and understand me, and soon my words were being told with a quiet surrounding. I was telling the coach about how similar this incident was to a previous situation I was in before, and the amount of patience I had learned. Once I had the whole group’s attention, I started to speak to them as a whole, and told them the necessity of being a patient person. They told me afterwards how much they realized the requirements of
