Would you be happy if you had received an A in your class? Do you feel that you truly learned enough to deserve that perfect A? Students who are in either high school or college are forgetting the true meaning of having knowledge and being able to learn. People think that how well they perform in the classroom will justify how well the teacher teaches their students but necessary that might not always be that way. In Brent Staples piece, “Why Colleges Shower their Students with A’s”, he argues that there must be an end to the grade Inflation and continues by examining for a possible solution by using language techniques to emphasize the main point.
The Game of School: Why We All Play It, How It Hurts Kids, and What It Will Take to Change It by Robert L. Fried is a great tool for identifying challenges in school systems and planning school reform. This book explains in great depth the problems faced by students and educators in schools today and ends with a call to action for solving these problems. Some major concepts that arise frequently throughout the book are time being wasted, students feeling powerless and the prioritization of test scores over authentic learning. Time is wasted by everyone in school and is wasted in various ways, for example students are given busy work and teachers rush through a curriculum while students learn nothing. Students, while they are the most important stakeholders, feel as though they have no control over their education.
Persavsive Paragragh I think Grandview R2 Middle School should have recess. Recess would provide more phyisical activities and exersize for kids, also i think recess provides free time for kids to get away from work for a little bit. The normal time to have recess would be after lunch to let energy befor comming back to class. Also i think recess is a time for kids to let out stress from work that has been put on them. Recess help kids stay active and healthy also it would help kids not sleep in class while doing his or her work.
Over recent years, the United States obesity epidemic has increased in abundance to the point where an individual should be worried about making healthier life choices. Eating habits are an immense reason why our health has changed for the worse since the 70s. People die young due to developing obesity related diseases. Diseases occur from choices people make, what one decides to eat, and how much an individual decides to eat. Studies show the life expectancy for an unhealthy person who chooses to eat a bigger portion size, often less than the average individual who keeps a balanced way of eating.
Do you ever wish that your middle school had sports teams? Participating in sports in middle school is very important for numerous reasons. When it comes to teenagers being active and being a part of a team is important. This is why middle schools should have sports teams.
At school Most Americans believe that a good education saves lives. Even so, something happens when money is required. People start wearing sweatshirts with the words embellished on them “college is for suckers” (Hrabowski). Many people would agree, “It is a well-known fact that in America, public schools never have enough money to run, and colleges and universities are expensive.” The main reasons that schools cut anything are because of budget deficits”(1).
Why don’t middle schoolers have a “recess” or free period? Honestly I don’t know. But in my opinion, all grades should have some type of free period like recess. This could help make friends, let the teachers have a break, and give us extra time for missing work or homework. All in all, it is a good thing for us, and even high school.
There has been a recent controversy on whether kids should get participation trophies. People say that they should, but others disagree. The person to start the debate was James Harrison linebacker for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He thinks kids shouldn’t get participation trophies, and I agree. I think kids need to learn why getting a trophy for showing up isn’t good.
Some teens play sports and have practices after school. Teens that play sports argue that they will not have any free time in their day. “Some argued that later start times would get in the way of after-school activities like football practice” (Associate Press). This quote is an appropriate argument because many teens do play sports. Athletes at Beaumont High School often have practices after the school day is over.
Should middle school students have recess? Middle school students should not have recess at all. This is because they need to grow and mature, they could get distracted from their missing work, and there is more of a chance to get hurt. You may think differently, but there is no denying the facts that prove my opinion. Middle school is a time in a kids life where they have more responsibilities, yet still are allowed to be a child.
The ideal model of schooling for young adolescents is the middle school model. The middle school model allows for a smooth transition from elementary school to middle school. The model also takes into consideration the developmental needs of adolescents. The middle school model best fits the uniqueness of the young middle school learner.
Schools consists of varieties of teachers , who are responsible for teaching and caring for the students throughout the day. People may argue that schools should support both individuality and conformity to an extent. These two goals are completely contradicting to one another, the betterment of individuals and the betterment of society as a whole. I argue that schools need to focus on individuality more than any else. Schools fail to do this by enforcing dress codes, having mandatory classes and control of the school day structure.
These are all extremely important developmental building blocks that help them to grow into future members of society. According to the American Association for the Child's Right to Play, many school systems have dropped recess since 1989. “Personal conversations with principals and teachers suggest that they feel pressured to pack more instruction into the school day because of new calls for accountability” (Jarett Olga). Some of the main
After school, from 3 to 6 p.m, is a critical period of time in a child’s life. After school programs help keep kids safe and inspire them to learn during that period of time. After school programs are organized programs that youth can participate in outside of a traditional school day. Enrolling children in after school programs would provide them with benefits that unenrolled children would not receive, such as reduce risky behavior and promote physical health. After school programs provide a safe environment for children, while positively impacting their academics, safety, and their future.
It becomes very difficult for students who participate in sports directly after school or those who ride the bus to find time to meet with a teach to get help. If they were to stay after school the students who ride a bus would risk missing their bus which lead to a difficult situation for their parents. Many parents are working eight to five jobs or multiple jobs and can’t take an hour to pick their student up and drive them home. If a student missed the bus because they stayed after school their parent could end up losing their job because they had to leave work. A longer lunch break would allow students to go to teachers classrooms and get help during lunch so they don’t miss the bus after school.
