Religion is brought up time and time again as a motivator for people to act a certain way in life. Religion later becomes a reason for war when people fought over the holy land in the crusades. If the territory didn’t have any religious significance it probably wouldn’t have been fought over. The fighting in the holy land is still a problem to this day. With so much power behind religion it can really motivate us to fight for the faith. The Crusades were a series of attacks on the holy land to take it back from the Turks. The reason for this was because the Turks were Muslim and the holy land has significance for Christian and Jewish faiths as well. Eventually Saladin started taking back the kingdoms and this led to the second crusade. The second crusade began to have other motivators such as money and this becomes a motivator for the third crusade as well. In the third crusade three kings went to fight for the holy land. Emperor Barbarossa drowned and Philip II was only in it for the money. This crusade eventually fell apart because only Richard the Lionhearted was left to fight Saladin. His motivation for the religion and the greater good led him to fight a proper battle with Saladin. Of course a lot of our general views on life are still based on religion. Religion is still so powerful today that we still use it for arguments and discussions such as abortion. With the younger generation, these views are conflicting because so much of the world is Christian and this helps the religion survive in the modern day. Certain areas of the world are still very active in following Christianity that other churches that might need more priests or other religious figures can usually get them from another country in order to supply the church with enough people to spread the word of
