Selflessness, Genuineness, and Integrity are several traits that best describe who I am. Selflessness is caring about the happiness, health, and success of others; it often involves taking action to serve those around you. My experiences with young children in my church has developed me into becoming a selfless person. I feel a sense of meaning and significance whenever I volunteer to serve those in my church. One time, I was helping out in a Sunday School class; there was a frightened little girl around the age of 2 years old. She stood in the corner of the room confused and anxious. Her face was emotionally blank. I tried to play with her for several minutes, but she was very hesitant. After some time, she started to interact with me, and she had a beaming smile on her face. Being genuine is expressing your true emotions and feelings rather than superficial ones. You must have the will to be open and honest both towards others and yourself. An example of genuineness was when I served as a buddy for a nationwide event “committed to celebrating people with special needs” called “Night to Shine.” My buddy, Lisa, and I had some very deep conversations about doing what you want to do, not what others want you to do. It all sprouted from the moment when everyone started the long conga line. I asked Lisa, “Do you wanna join the conga line?” She answered no, so I nodded my head and said, “You don’t have to do what you don’t want to do.” She replied, “That’s very true.” Both of us stood alone, but together, in the middle of the infinity conga line with those thoughts echoing through our heads for the rest of the song.
