What do you think when you hear the name Shakespeare? Romeo and Juliet? Julius Caesar? Most teenagers wouldn’t really think about anything because Shakespeare isn’t typically something that young minds would enjoy. Some would feel that the main cause of this would be that they don’t understand the deeper meaning of the story in general. Macbeth, however, has obvious intensity and is an intriguing story. While reading Macbeth by William Shakespeare, the reader gets to witness the powerful theme, importance of smaller characters, and the deep tone of the story by understanding the speaker. Although Lady Macbeth lacks humanity completely and constantly taunts her husband for being a coward, she is what pushes Macbeth to kill Duncan in Act 2 Scene 2. That is important because the death of Duncan is what sets the rest of the story into action. Given that the murder of Duncan is what basically leads to her fall in Act 5 Scene 5 once she admits to her part in Duncan’s murder, his death was still a vital part of the story. On the other hand, Banquo was also a big part in the story of MacBeth. He is not only Macbeth’s best friend but is also what sent Macbeth on his downward spiral in Act 3 Scene 1. After becoming king, his ambition started to blind him and he then has Macduff and Banquo killed in the first few scenes of act three. Banquo only really lived for three acts but his ghost continued to haunt his former best friend. Macbeth becomes morally corrupted by his ambition and the power of being king. Lady Macbeth is what pushed him to kill King Duncan which led him to become the new king. Then due to being king he became corrupted and killed his best friend. William Shakespeare was an English poet, actor, and also a play writer who is known for his tragedies like Julius Caesar and Macbeth. In most of Shakespeare’s plays you see the running theme of betrayal. Such as, in Julius Caesar, you watch as the conspirators convince Caesar’s close friend, Brutus to go against Caesar and kill him because he isn’t a “fit ruler.” In, Macbeth you see a similar occurrence but King Duncan, however, actually is a very quality ruler. That fact aside, Macbeth is one of the King’s loyal soldiers in the very beginning of the story until the witches tell him his fate and then he lets Lady Macbeth talk him into betraying Duncan for their own selfish and greedy desires for power. Seeing this, you can tell that Shakespeare likes to write about characters that have moral failures and/or fatal flaws which lead to their demise. With this readers can notice that he creates writing with somber and or even sinister tones which is the tone for Macbeth.
