From the disaster of nine-eleven to camping in the woods, an individual will never know when it’s their time to fight for their survival. The highly augmented topic of a higher survival rate when traveling solo versus traveling with a group will never have its rest. There have been many scenarios where solo survival and group survival both have had miraculous outcomes, but group survival is just an easier route. People traveling in a group rather than by themselves, have a higher chance of overcoming their situation because of their ability to have more brain power, have more hands to work with, and have set tasks for each individual. To commend, people traveling in groups rather than solo will have more ideology and brain power with the more people. One of many examples takes place in the novel, 102 minutes by Jim Dwyer where Jan Demczur and others working in the building to help a man escape a stuck elevator. “He slid its metal edge by the other men, and they scored deeper and deeper” (Dwyer.156). Throughout the book of 102 minutes there are many conditions where multiple hands were needed to help people survive. For example, the New York Fire Department worked together to use their equipment to save the lives of others. “A group of five or six men stood at one of the landings, fixing their gear, and one of them noticed how warm she seemed” (Dwyer.123). This is one of the many examples when the firefighters used each other as an advantage to have each firefighter hold each different gear or have a set job in trying to save as many people as possible from the building. This illustrates an image of why group survival has a higher success rate than solo survival because in this case the firefighters were able to use each other as support to help citizens
