What is prejudice? Prejudice is “an unfavorable opinion or feeling formed beforehand or without knowledge, thought or reason”(dictionary.com). In the world, there are a lot of prejudices, and I want to focus on prejudice of tattoos. These days, the presence of tattoos in our society is becoming more accepted as time passes on. Depending on the person, they may want to get a tattoo for a specific reason. Giving people own tribute to a loved one lost, or a word that they feel represents meaning are a few reasons they may want to get a tattoo. There is a famous saying from Jonny Depp, “My body is my journal and my tattoos are my story” (Tattoo prejudice – What’s the problem?). The popularity of tattoos within our culture is increasing rapidly, as well as becoming more acceptable. However, still they were controlled in such areas as sexual norms, patriarchal familism, and systems (Sanders and Vail). If someone has tattoo on their body, company or society reluctant to accept or hire them. For instance, according to the study conducted by Careerbuilder.com and valut.com, they said “42 percent of managers said their opinion of someone would be lowered because of that individual’s visible body art. Also, 76 percent of respondents believed visible tattoos were unprofessional.”(The effect of tattoos in the workplace) Like this tattoo affect the chances of getting the job. Some place or company have rule for hiding or vanishing their tattoo, so they have to wear long sleeves or long pants that way people can’t see (TATTOO PREJUDICE). Because of these negative impact, for college students, many of them are considering getting tattoo, but if they get for their artistic beauty, it might be harmful on their future job or their
