As a Latina daughter of two immigrants I have some of the ideas of what is “The American Dream”. My parents came here because they wanted to achieve it themselves. In some kind of way, they think they did. There are many factors for why people still believe in the American dream “The American emphasis on individualism is not a historical accident but firmly rooted in the religious, political, economic and culturally experience of America as a nation of Immigrants” this sentence made me think before reading that it is true how we are ruled and controlled by that not just here in the United States of America but almost everywhere we go. Where the white western religions are the dominant ones and if you have other ideals you are discriminated by not getting the same opportunities. We are in a country where there is political democracy even if the people did not vote for our new president and politicians make laws to oppress minorities and poor people. We are in a country where the rich will get richer and the poorer “free markets themselves do not guarantee democracy, civil liberties, or political freedom” meaning that this is unfair but the people with money have the power of control. We are in a country where the white western culture is in power.
