I chose The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, because it is the largest humanitarian network in the world and also independent and neutral organization. I want to learn more about this organization. Its mission is to prevent and alleviate human suffering, to protect life and health and to defend the human dignity during armed crises, epidemics, floods, earthquakes and other emergencies. It provides assistance to all countries and it employs millions of volunteers. It is composed of The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and 189 individual National Societies. The Finnish Red Cross is one of the Finland’s largest nongovernmental organization. The Finnish Red Cross helps people at the home country and globally and supports the authorities in emergency situations. The Finnish Red Cross action is financed almost by donations. Donations can be money, clothes or goods. The actions of the Finnish Red Cross are guided by the same principles as The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. The Finnish Red Cross actions are also based on the Geneva Conventions and the law of the Finnish Red Cross (238/2000). The Finnish Red Cross aims to act ethically. In Finland, action is coordinated by the central office and 12 district offices and more than 500 local departments. In these units work employees, elected officials and volunteers. The central office develops the activities of the organization, works collaboration with the authorities, coordinates the international aid and organizes national campaigns, of which the most familiar is probably The Hunger Day, The Red Nose Day and monthly donations. District offices organize trainings and events, for example first aid courses.
