The authenticity of the Shroud of Turin has been refuted for generations. Many have their minds set that the Shroud of Turin is, indeed, the burial cloth of Jesus of Nazareth. Other more scientific thinkers simply don’t believe this to be true and yet, many other scientists are simply unsure what to believe. No matter one’s position, there is a simple fact, there is no use of dyes, inks, or pigments found on the portion of the cloth containing the image of a crucified man. However, scientists have been hard pressed to figure out how the image of Jesus appeared on the cloth considering no pigments are on the cloth. In Acharya S and D.M. Murdock’s article, “Is the Shroud of Turin Real?” it is argued, “The Shroud of Turin is one of the many relics manufactured for profit during the Middle Ages.” This argument is supported by the fact that the original carbon dating test was tested in three different labs that all revealed the same findings. While this is a fair point to make seeing as the time frame revealed in the original carbon dating test was 1260 to 1390. Meaning that if this were when the cloth was created that it wouldn’t be possible for it to be the burial shroud of Jesus, bearing in mind that Jesus died around 33 AD. This point is valid to a certain extent, after it was released to the public that the shroud was a fake many tried to disprove this by coming up with theories that explain the reasoning for the dates being so late. Joe Marino and Sue Bedford were a couple who like many others had doubts about the results of the carbon tests. After years of playing detective the couple believed that they had finally found a logical explanation as to why the carbon dating produced such a late creation date.
