Ian Graham Period 4 10/28/16 Section 1 - Muskets Before the weapons we know now, muskets were a major weapon. Muskets were slow to load taking around 20 seconds to do so and often misfired. These guns had calibers ranging from .69 to .75 inches. Muskets usually fired anywhere from 80-100 yards but were inaccurate weapons but did the job. Muskets could be fitted with bayonets, a short dual sided blade meant for close combat.

Even though the railroad was made before the separation between the north and the south and it’s main job was to provide supplies for both sides, the invention of the railroad greatly contributed to the civil war. If this invention didn’t exist then both sides would rely on the mississippi river and other channels of water and both sides would be a little more similar when it comes to culture. This technology allowed for soldiers to carry more ammunition onto the battlefield as well as load the rifles faster due to not having to pack the gunpowder and bullet into the rifle. Compared to previous muskets the Spencer Rifle was more effective and deadlier on the front lines causing more casualties than in previously fought wars. Artifact D pictures a Colt model revolver used by Navy officers during the war. This revolver worked similar to how Spencer Rifles did but instead of seven shots the revolver was six. Weapon technology like this allowed for officers to have a means of defending themselves while also being able to ride on horseback.
Civil War Battlefield Medicine In what a few may consider the first modern war, the Civil War was home to thousands of injuries and deaths. The Civil War was a devastating war where the Confederates, the South, fought for the idea that slavery should stay and should not be abolished and the Union, the North, fought for the abolishment of slavery. The typical soldier that fought during the Civil War were untrained farmers who either volunteered or were forced into battle. The Confederates started the war with approximately 750,000 troops and the Union with nearly 2 million.

A time in which the country formed ideals of citizenship and the role of the government. This view of post-war reconstruction is formatted in a timeline to include many of the political debates of the late nineteenth century. She shows an effective examination of how the post-war reconstruction, has produced a modern day construction that sits behind concepts of individualism, the middle class, and governmental influence.
Did you know that most major Battles of the Civil War were draws? Although the Battle of Antietam was considered a draw, it still gave the Union army a large advantage. Along with the Battle of Antietam, the Battle of Gettysburg was almost a draw, but the Union took the win. Later in the war, a General named Tecumseh Sherman thought that by destroying the southern infrastructure, he would revoke the south of its morale, and its ability to fight. A major theme of the Civil War was war was terrible, as supported by Battles of Antietam, Gettysburg, and General Sherman’s Total War.
The Civil War, shows that although the south lost, they were able to surviving without slaves and the economy could still function as a whole. After the civil war major reconstruction was needed. Southern states could not survive with the same social standards, but for now, blacks were free in the south. This also meant that the south would have to rely on other things besides slavery to boosts their economy. “For Blacks, it proved a hollow triumph.
The Civil War will be known in history to be a unique war. A war within the confines of the country,dividing the United States into. In the South slaves provided labor that ran the agricultural economy. The institution of slavery took basic human rights away from slaves and would further divide the country, making it the cause of the Civil War.

This war had so many advantages and disadvantages on the Union and the Confederacy. The three most significant pieces that led to the Confederacy to lose the war were population, resources, and military strategies.
The Civil War, a cause not only for the end of slavery, but to bring back the Confederacy as well. Many thought that simply because the North had a clear advantage over the South, such as population or weaponry, the war would end quickly, people picnicked on the first battles of war, watching the battles, but they didn’t fully realize how deadly new weapons had evolved. A single shot could easily kill anyone within range. People soon found how effective technology had become, and how well the South could fight back. Throughout the earlier years of the war the Confederates won nearly all their major battles, such as the very first battle at Fort Sumter, or the following one at Bull Run.
The Civil War allowed the country to unite together once again and strengthen the nation as a whole. The unification of the states and the people might have been the most enduring symbol of the Civil War. While the Civil War is
