Apart from Valletta another main urban town that also has been modified extensively is Ta’ Sliema. Nowadays Sliema is a town known for places of leisure such as different types of restaurants and clubs. It is also known as a place for shopping. Hotels and apartments have been built because of tourism. In fact tourism can also be the cause of a major change. Tourism is an important sector in the Maltese economy therefore one has to pay attention to it. This is the main reason why hotels and apartments are always being built. Unfortunately due to this major addition of the buildings, many of the architectural buildings have been destroyed and demolished. Modern buildings are taking place of other old and ancient buildings and now due to lack of space apartments are being built which can be seen as an eyesore especially if there is no greenery in which our Maltese island lacks. This is the contrary of years ago where during this period of time houses that were built also had a small garden with them. An example of this is the Victoria Police Station. Basically before, this was a normal house for residences and in fact nowadays the garden that this resident had is still present
