Lincoln’s second inaugural address states, ”To care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow, and his orphan.” Our country could do better by helping out our veterans in many different ways. I will be explaining how we can help them out better. South Dakota has only three VA hospitals. We have them in the following; Sioux Falls, Hot Springs, and Fort Meade. Some of hospitals lack certain departments to help out the veterans that are in need. Many of the patients at the hospital give a nine or ten out of ten for a rating. The hospital has all kinds of doctors to help your needs. You can even talk to doctors online to help you out. The problem is that there is about a year long wait to get into a VA hospital according to CNN. We should start making new hospitals so we can help them because our country made a promise to the veterans that we will take care of them. The veterans are getting worse everyday and we cannot help them immediately at the VA hospitals. We should change this and help the veterans more. …show more content…

PTSD is a mental health condition triggered by experiencing or seeing a terrifying event. They usually start 3 months after the horrifying event and some people recover after 6 months, while other veterans have it much longer. You have to have one re-experiencing symptom, one avoidance symptom, two arousal and reactivity symptoms, and two cognition and mood symptoms in one month to be diagnosed with PTSD. An estimated 22 veterans commit suicide everyday in America. We need to help the veterans that have this syndrome and help support them to get through
