Descartes is one of the founders of modern philosophy. Being a mathematician himself, he proposed some interesting theories regarding with beliefs, doubts, mathematics, science, and an idea of truth.
All of humanity shares the capacity to reason. This capacity space that we each have is measured in an equal amount, so everyone has the same capacity space of reasoning. But why do we have different beliefs? Why do we have different ideas? People live in different areas of the world. We could have different beliefs because we came from a different culture, or we could have different paths of thought, different inputs, and different outputs. Some people travel around the world to hear these different beliefs, but not everything can be true. Some beliefs would be considered irrational and ridiculous (Discourse on Methods 7). Many people take upon occupations, and live their whole life learning about new discoveries behind those subjects. But what if the core of logic is fake? Descartes believes that their is a deceiver, whether it is a god or a demon, that tricks us into believing mathematics and science are illusions (Meditations on First Philosophy 2).Descartes also believes the deceiver is tricking our senses. Making us see things, hear things, feel things, that may not be true. But if we distrust math, science, and our senses, we will distrust everything. What will become of us if we distrust everything? The idea of a deceiver tricking us is quite popular to the normal world. In modern day, some people believe that we all live in a simulation, that everyday life and everyone else lives in some type of a virtual world. And if we distrust everything, how are we supposed to find reasonings behind our beliefs? That is why I think we just keep ‘playing the game.’ If we were in some kind of
