In fall 2014, I took a class that covered American Indians as a small unit. After taking this class, I realized that I did not hear about the American Indians since elementary. I learned about some current events that were related to American Indians. Now, I wonder where are they, what are they doing, why aren't they shown in the news as often? My expectations from this course are to learn why there is few information on American Indians, how can they be a part of the current events on an international level, and when did they start to drift away from the media? I expect to learn more about their past, present, and future. I do not know much about the society they live in. I define someone is American Indian only if they are committed into the traditions, beliefs, and people. Everyone is free to make their own decisions and if someone says they are American Indian either by being born into that religion or they chose to be American Indian; I see them as American Indian. Someone who is not American Indian would be someone who is either not committed into his culture, is committed to something other than American Indian such as American, French, Mexican, etc, or chooses to not follow anything. I define mass media as anything that allows information to be shared with everyone across the globe. There are so many types of media throughout the world, such as social media, news media, entertainment media and more. The most popular media at this time in my generation would be social media. But I don't think every American Indian looks like that. I think I saw a picture of an American Indian who looked like every other person. The last time I read something about the American Indians was when they were not happy with the sport team Red Skins because of their name. After that incident, I did not read anything about American Indians. But I feel the media tries to show the American Indians as aggressive and impolite.
