Ford utilizes subjective camera work in this scene to influence the viewers to encounter the film in a more personal way. The movement of the camera also adds a component of power to the scene that generally wouldn't have been there with a an objective view. It effectively demonstrates how overwhelmed the characters are with the unforeseen fact that the camp is loaded with other hungry families in search for work. Ford's close-up, moderate movement presentation of the judgmental faces of the families in a similar circumstance gives the audience understanding into the sadness the characters are feeling.
