The Magna Carta, or ‘The Great Charter’, was a peace treaty drawn up by King John of England in the year 1215 to stop civil war by some rebel barons. Unfortunately, the treaty did not work as planned, however it did, for the first time, establish a thought that everyone, including the king, were subject to the law of the land.
