EMI: The Inside Story is a documentary released on May 20th 2016 on BBC4 and tells the story of the record company that constantly brought popular music to the world. It was produced by Bohemia Films Ltd and Min Clough and was directed by Todd Austin. This piece dedicated for television tells the story of EMI. This label has produced many major bands and singers such as The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Blur or Kate Bush. Since its creation in 1931 EMI has been one of the principal companies in terms of publishing, electronics, manufacturing, and ultimately, music. Headquartered in London, EMI owned three record labels: His Master's Voice (HMS), Capitol Records, and Parlophone. In 1971 however, it created the new EMI Records, which would house and produce many brilliant and trendsetting artists. But in 1962, EMI's reputation as a traditional British record label started with The Beatles signing with Parlophone. Through the years, band and artists signing onto on of EMI's record label tried to match this image. The institution itself was at odds with the musical and artistic sides of the bands many times. Through the many interviews included in this video, the audience is able to get first-hand account of the events from many prominent artists and EMI employees and get an unbiased story about their time at the record company. Their knowledge of this high-profile and notable British institution brings an air of truth and freshness to the overly told
