Readers and Writers Many people seem to be under the influence that if your a writer, everything that comes to their mind or everything english related that they do seems to come out perfect due to the a myth of perfect english skills that doesn't even exist, not even for the best of writers. In ‘The Inspired Writer vs. The Real Writer’ Sarah Allen claims how there is a difference between the two. She says that the inspired writer doesn't really exist but the real writer does but with that real writer comes its struggles too. L. Lennie Irvin also agrees with Allen by also talking about academic writing . In the article ‘What is Academic Writing?’ Irvin states the true meaning of what real academic writing is. Not only are they focused on writing but also as they read. Mike Bunn in ‘How to Read Like a Writer’ he states some skills to reading like a writer. According to Bunn, Its not simple but in order to do it you don't need to be an amazing writer either. He says that in order to read like a writer you need complete focus on what your reading and only then will your full attention be grasped on the material. After reading the articles I have found that Irving and Bunn have similar points that pull the articles together. While Irvin tells us how/what is academic writing, Bunn states on how a writer should read. Even if one is not considered a writer it is still possible to acquire the skills to read and write like one. This is why I believe that there is not such thing as a perfect writer, in order to act like a real writer there are skills needed to be acquired but they aren't impossible to reach. This is usually a question not frequently asked throughout our daily lives but it sure is an interesting question if thought is put into it. According to Massey University they say that academic writing has its own rules that it must follow. It states “ These rules and practices may be organised around a formal order or structure in which to present ideas, in addition to ensuring that ideas are supported by author citations in the literature. In contrast to personal writing contexts, academic writing is different because it deals with the underlying theories and causes governing processes and practices in everyday life, as well as exploring alternative explanations for these events. Academic writing follows a particular ‘tone’ and adheres to traditional conventions of punctuation, grammar, and spelling”(Massey ¶1). Already with this we are able to see that writing is used in almost anyone's life at some point and it contexts throughout life. The only difference is how academic writing has does more things than what personal writing does and like said before it has its own rules that it follows for the writing to progress smoothly. If we next move into the article by Irvin, ‘What is Academic Writing’ he starts by giving us a few myths about writing.
