"During the "Middle Ages", from 476 to about 1100, European civilization slipped into semi-barbarism". It was a very hard and bad time, but a lot of historians debate about if Europe was in a "dark age" or not. The evidence states that Europe was a dark age. There was a lot of evidence that states that Europe was not in a dark age.
In Mary Oliver’s, The Black Walnut Tree, she exhibits a figurative and literal understanding on the importance of family and its history. The poem is showing that your emotional value is what’s more important than your physical value (money). By using symbolism and imagery the poet illustrates an intricate relationship between the “Black Walnut Tree” to the mother and daughter being both rooted deeply in the earth and past trying to reach for the sun and the fruit it will bring. Symbolism constitutes the allusion that the tree is the family both old and new. Imagery portrays the image that the tree and family are connected by similar trails and burdens.
Kate Foley Ms. Zisel Global 9H April 2nd, 2017 The Middle Ages was a time of destruction and redemption for the people of the Roman Empire between A.D. 500-1400. The best description of this time period can be represented by four terms, the Golden Age, the Dark Age, the Age of Faith and the Age of Feudalism. Each time caused for a significant change in society that had a tremendous impact. From the troubling times of invasions and destructions to a time of prosperity and progression, the best terms that describe the Middle Ages are the Dark Ages and the Golden Ages.
Both civic establishments created inflexible social chains of command with a solid political ruler at the top, trailed by a decision made out of political guides and other government authorities, clerical class, and an expert class of dealers and other talented laborer and skilled workers. A large portion of the general population framed a worker class of unskilled workers and ranchers. At the highest point of the social pyramid of Egypt was the pharaoh with the administration authorities, nobles and clerics beneath him/her. The third level comprised of the recorders and warriors with the white collar class in the fourth level. Laborers were the fifth level of society with slaves making up the most reduced social class.
In the Middle Ages, the power of people impacted the society, because of the Feudal System. In other words, the rankings of people. There were four groups. The Kings and Queens were at the top, then the nobles, the knights, and last peasants and serfs(Doc. 1). Serfs and peasants had very little land given and they even had to provide food that they farmed for the knights and nobles.

The three levels would be The Clergy, which was the highest part of the social system this consisted of Bishops, which administered to the needs of the priests, the Priests, cared for the spiritual life of the population. The Priests were a big deal during the middle ages because the population or the people went to them to confess their sins through confession. The Clergy also held the Monks, which were men who lived in monasteries and served as example of the perfect Christian life. Nuns were the lowest part of The Clergy social system, Nuns pretty much consisted of younger girls whose parents placed them in there to make sure they have a secure life.
Many labels were used to characterize the Middle Ages, however the best were The Dark Ages, The Age of Feudalism, and The Age of Faith. The Dark Ages accurately identifies the Middle Ages because of all the death, destruction, and plague throughout. The Middle Ages followed the decline of the Roman Empire, which causes very harsh times across Europe. Also this time period consists of the plague which virtually slaughters one-third of Europe.
The Middle Ages led to the Age of Exploration. The Middle Ages (500 CE-1500 CE) was a time in history after the Roman Empire collapsed (476 CE). The Age of Exploration was when people traveled off to foreign lands and explored or traded. The Middle Ages had a lot of important events that led to the Age of Exploration. Three episodes that occurred in the late medieval Eurasian world – the Crusades, the Mongols and the Black Death -- disrupted the country and society and changed the world forever. The Crusades that were the wars against religion of the Christians, Judaism and Islam, were fought to try to change people's religion to their cause. The Mongols were Barbarians who moved across Eurasia, conquering lands, bringing death, and bulldozing anything that stood in their way as they invaded. The Middle Ages was the time period after the fall of the Roman Empire around 500 CE to the 1350’s. During this time the Roman Catholic Church and the Pope held the most power throughout Europe, the priests often lived in a closed area inside the walls of the monasteries. “Schools were few. Illiteracy was widespread” (Background essay) because of this average person of this time was illiterate .and more than 85 percent of the population were farmers and peasants called serfs and they worked in an estate for the owner called the lord.

In the History Channel's documentary "The Dark Ages", the Early Middle Ages is portrayed in many ways that aren't consistent with actual history. The History Channel portrays the Early Middle Ages as The Dark Ages. The Early Middle Ages was not the actual Dark Ages because, the real Dark Ages was in Greece in 1100-759 B.C.E. when Greece collapsed. However, History Channel's, "The Dark Ages" was supposed to be around 500-1000 C.E. History Channel makes The Early Middle Ages appear as a gloomy, dark, "hellish" time.
