There are many reasons to have a Priest or any other type of holy leader at a church. For instance if you were trying to get baptized you wouldn’t have just anyone do it, you’d have someone that you could trust. And another reason for having a Priest is so that he may marry two people with the parents blessing of course. Such is the case in Shakespeare’s The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. The purpose of the Priest was to marry Romeo and Juliet in secret. However this doesn’t end very well for the two, essentially everyone will blame each other and it won’t stop till one person is to blame. He warns them to take it slow. A quote that backs this up would be “Wisely and slow. They stumble that run fast” (2.3.94). What this quote is showing is that the wisest men may run slower but they can run faster than expected, in today’s terms when you think your right you may rush anything to fast. For example, He wanted to leave the tomb so nobody would get caught. What went on before this was said is Juliet was announced dead and they gave her a funeral and went to go take her what had seemed like a corpse to the Capulet monument to be buried alongside Tybalt who was killed early on. Another quote to back up why Friar Lawrence is to blame is this quote “Come, ‘ll dispose of thee / Among a sisterhood of holy nuns. / Stay not to question, for the watch is coming. / Come, go, good Juliet. I dare no longer stay” (5.3.156-159). This shows that he doesn’t wish to have her caught or even himself because he advised the plan to her and he would get in major trouble with the Prince of fair Verona and he wishes to not have to deal with
