The Sound of Thunder by Ray Bradbury is a futuristic science fiction short story about a hunter named Eckles, he visits the Time Safari, a company that sends you to the past. Eckles travels back in time with a group of three to shoot and kill a prehistoric dinosaur. Nethergrave is about a young boy named Jeremy, who plays sports, and has a group of internet friends. Later, Jeremy is faced with a decision whether to stay in the real world, or leave it for the virtual introduced by a great being. This critical response will be comparing, and contrasting both stories by making points such as, how the stories fit into the science fiction genre, the characterization between Eckles and Jeremy, the theme/message of the stories, dialogue, and writing style.
Panic, anxiety, and most importantly, fear, are all components that form the adventurous tale, The Most Dangerous Game. Rainsford, the protagonist of the story, is widely recognized as an experienced hunter who ventures off in a ship to travel to Rio in order to hunt jaguars. However, the story turns when Rainsford falls off his ship, encounters a hunter who hunts men, and becomes the prey himself. Although Connell sets up an intense plot by using irony, characterization, word choice, and other literary devices, imagery is one of the main aspects that releases an uneasy feeling within the audience. Imagery is a common literary device that authors use to engage a reader into the story, by painting the scene in the audience’s mind.
The stories both involve in the wilderness. The “sound of thunder” had a lot of traveling in it. In the story “being prey” they had a lot of water, swamps. In the “sound of thunder” the machine stops working. In “being prey” the river over flows.
The theme of Ray Bradbury's "A Sound of Thunder" is enhanced by his use of foreshadowing throughout the story. The story follows a man named Eckles on his journey to the past on a hunt for a real dinosaur. As the events in the past unfold, Eckles ultimately alters the future forever by taking a small step off the Path. The path is there to make sure the time travelers do not affect the future. Unfortunately, Eckles learns the true consequences of his actions when he returns to a changed future.
Have you ever been reading a book and start to wonder “what happens next?” This is called suspense, a state or feeling of excited or anxious uncertainty about what may happen. These stories use suspense to help develop the overall tone of the two stories. “The Tell-Tale Heart”, by Edgar Allan Poe, and “The Monkey’s Paw, by W.W Jacobs, created a feeling of suspense by using cause-and-effect relationships by showing the characters’ feeling of something frightening might happen. First off, “The Monkey’s Paw” uses cause-and-effect relationships to cause tension or suspense.
Many authors use suspense in order to keep their audiences interested in the story. Edgar Allan Poe in The Masque of the Red Death created suspense by using literary devices. In The Masque of the Red Death Poe, established suspense throughout the story using a clock which symbolizes the passing of time. The first hint the readers are given is that the clock freezes people when it strikes half an hour. Understanding the foreshadowing of the clock allows the readers to comprehend the suspense in the story.
Body Cameras Don 't Work If They Are Not Worn or Not Turned On After Michael Brown, the unarmed black teen who was shot in Ferguson, Missouri, America made it known that we want police officers to wear body cameras. Police Departments responded by saying they want officers to wear body cameras, too. So, if everybody wants the officers to wear body cameras why are there still so many incidents of questionable conduct that are not recorded? According to the Huffington Post, only 2 of the 27 large U.S. cities looked at had all of their officers equipped with body cams.
Although both Michael Crichton, author of Jurassic Park, and Ray Bradbury, author of A Sound of Thunder, use foreshadowing, A Sound of Thunder creates more suspense for readers. Both are excellent, but Bradbury uses outstanding diction to emphasize the importance of certain events in the plot. While the pair of stories are equally well written, A Sound of Thunder uses it's foreshadowing to allure readers into continuing the short story. In A Sound of Thunder, there are many instances of suspenseful foreshadowing.
“The Veldt” by Ray Bradbury, “Good Country People” by Flannery O'Connor, and “The Lottery” by Shirley Jackson all have very strong themes that depict a darker side of human nature. All are very different in plot, but are connected through their endings. They all start with seemingly normal characters who end up doing things that would not have been predicted. In “The Veldt” it shows children revolting against their parents. “The Lottery” shows a whole community turning against one person.

The purpose of “The Chase” was to give it everything, without hesitating in fear. In the the boys were being pursued they ran as fast as they could trying to lose the pursuer at every small or hard place, but failed to do so. Their pursuer shared the same passion for never giving up.
There are also a couple things that would be changed if instead of Bradbury, I myself wrote the story. Believe it or not, “A Sound of Thunder” has a few similarities between the short film and the story. One major resemblance in both the film and story is the path. The path is a metal,
