“The Jilting of Granny Weatherall” by Katherine Anne Porter uses the imagery aspect of a third-person point of view narrative to display how Granny Weatherall took advantage of her youth and describes the days leading up to her death. Porter utilized the third person point of view to show how Granny physically feels towards the start of the story. At the beginning of the story, Granny Weatherall appears to be an intolerable, independent old lady that is sick. Porter writes, “Her bones felt loose, and floated around in her skin.” Rather than Granny or the doctor stating Granny’s condition, Porter utilized a third-person point of view to add adjectives to deeply explain Granny’s physical condition clearly. To add a more in-depth explanation of Granny’s condition, Porter later added, “She meant to wave good-by, but it was too much trouble. Her eyes closed themselves, it was like a dark curtain drawn around her bed.” Instead of having Granny say she was tired and lacked energy, Porter used a third-person point of view to explain it.
