The short story “The journey to the Brother’s Farm” is written by the British author Pippa Gough. The segregation between black and white people in Africa was caused by the apartheid. The white people had a stronger financial background, which enabled them to hirer black people to work for them. Therefore black people worked as slaves for the white people. This is the superior problem in the short story “The Journey to the Brother’s Farm”, in which we are introduced to a girl named Annelie, who lives in South Africa and has experienced apartheid herself. The composition is divided into two parts. The story switches between a personal story and a witness statement. The part written in italic is a statement received by the police station. The witness statement contains things to help the investigating and nothing more. The part written in normal typing contains the full story. The special way of building the short story makes the reader aware, that some criminal activity had found place. The fact that the text is divided into two different text forms gives two impressions of the same happening. There are some common features between the witness statement and the personal story. Annelie is the narrator all along. She shares her thoughts in both the statement and the personal story. The difference is that she includes way more details and information in the personal story.
