I enjoyed reading your post. I agree with you that the book, and the movie, “The Joy Luck Club”, represents a huge difference between American and Chinese cultures. It's hard to be an American teenager, when in the house, despite the many thousands miles, is still China. It is difficult to live in America, develop life, raise a family, when you do not understand any of the country itself, nor its language, nor its lifestyle. This book shows what Chinese immigrants had to sacrifice to live in America. But unfortunately the sound generation forgets about it. Do you think that daughters understand and appreciate, what their mothers had to go through to provide them with a good life?
