Bio: The British Invasion occurred in the mid-1960s when a vast amount of pop and rock artists from the United Kingdom came to the United States. Among these artists was The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, and of course The Kinks. The British Invasion is considered to be one of the most important influences for music in the United States. The band originally started out when Ray Davies dropped out of art school to join his brother’s band called “The Ravens” in 1963. He quickly became the leader of the group changing the name to “The Kinks” and picking up Mick Avory for their drummer. Their career started rough until their first hit single “You Really Got Me” hit it big and grabbed the number 1 hit song in England. The Kinks being one of these bands, started to compose the first of their multiple concept albums attempting to find their style and create the hit album they needed. It paid off in 1970 with their release of the album “Lola Versus Powerman and the Moneygoround, Part One” and the self-titled single “Lola”. This hit song along with the lifted bans on music in the United States boosted The Kinks’ career greatly. They signed with the record label RCA and continued working on more concept albums. This however did not prove worthwhile as they got no hit songs from many of their creations. Over the next few years most of their songs were used in theatrical performances. In 1977 after leaving RCA they gave up on the concept albums and focused on making a hit album. They succeeded making their first gold album since their early greatest-hits
