When college students are spending thousands of dollars on college courses, it is important to do well in them, which requires preparation and studying. Students today study an average of about 14 hours in a week. That number has gone down almost 50 percent from 1961 when students studied an average of 24 hours a week. The hours available to study have a lot to do with time management, but also with other things going on in student’s lives such as a jobs, which most full-time college students would have to put in the same amount of hours into a part-time job as they do studying. Without a doubt, college will have to be made a priority and students will have to apply themselves greatly to this. As Randy Pausch, author of The Last Lecture said,“A lot of people want a shortcut. I find the best shortcut is the long way, which is basically two words: work hard.” With the downhill number of hours students spend studying as time goes on, students need to find better study habits. Better study habits lead to better grades, a better GPA, and doing better overall in college. Multiple intelligences says that intelligence based on an I.Q. is far too limited to determine just how intelligent a person is. There are nine different types of these intelligences that students can compare themselves to in order to better know themselves to find the study habits that work the best for them.
