Obesity affects everyone in ways not thought about before. When a parent is raising a child they pass on habits, whether they like it or not. One habit many people are passing on is what they are eating. According to Daniel J Mitchell, “we can think obesity is unfortunate and we can encourage our friends and family members to live healthier lifestyles. And if we’re willing to be pests and to run the risk of being told to mind our own business, we can even encourage strangers to shape up.” (Daniel J. Mitchelle). The meaning of this is when you see someone you're more likely to do it as well. “Monkey see, monkey do, monkey me, monkey you.” Michelle Obama is helping kids make good choices. Not only has Michelle Obama done things, but the government has passed some laws as well. The Wall Street Journal writes, “Require institutions and restaurants to list calories, sugar, fat, protein and fiber (versus U.S. daily requirements) on all items.” (“The Experts”). The government has already put laws on what a school can serve. The Government has required restaurants to put up nutritional facts. They have not said what they can and cannot sell. At a point it would be violating our rights, but on the other hand the government could tax unhealthy foods to get people to eat healthier. Not only what we eat, but how much we eat is an issue. Carson-DeWitt also says that one way to help prevent obesity is learning how to eat with smaller proportions in some cases. When a child is growing they should eat more, but if they are a full grown adult eating too much they can learn to eat different porportions. According to a study taken in 2014 the average American meal was about 3,770 calories. This is the largest amount per meal than any other country in the world (Peppers). This amount of calories eaten in a day means that each person needs to burn more than 3, 770 calories in order to lose
