Alyss was finally able to beat Redd because of the conflict’s that transformed her, like coming back to Wonderland, the training she had to endure, and fighting Hatter. Challenges in Aylss‘s life provided her with valuable lessons that helped her develop her leadership skills. Like all kings and queens, Alyss had her defining moments that shaped her into a better queen. All kings and queens have defining moments that shape them into better leaders. Life problems teach leaders lessons that help them learn how to be effective leaders. In “The Looking Glass Wars”, Frank Beddor uses conflict to transform Alyss from a lost, frightened, and vulnerable child into a strong, assertive, and imaginative young woman so that she can lead the Alyssians in an attempt to defeat Redd and take back her queendom. When Alyss Heart was transported back to Wonderland, she had to become a warrior princess who was more adventurous to save her kingdom. She had a whole life in London and was at her wedding when Hatter Madigan found her and told her that they needed her back in Wonderland. She was hesitant at first, but then Hatter told her about her past and made her believe that she used to have a life in Wonderland. She practiced conjuring basic items so many times that she mastered her imagination, which enabled her ability to conjure up any item. During the battle, Alyss was finally able to produce something from her imagination: When she saw Dodge being attacked by a cannonball spider, she imagined a muzzle covering its mouth, which prevented it from dealing a killing blow to Dodge with its pincers (Beddor 252).
