The Crash of Society

At the end of World War II, there was a war between two groups of nations, between Soviet Union and the Axis powers. The allies of the Soviet Union was mainly consisted of United States,Britain,France,and Russia,which was made up of democratic republic system. Then the Axis power consisted of Germany, Italy, and Japan, and three countries’ governments and three countries governments were here based on dictatorship. In 1941, the Soviet Union was being invaded by the Axis powers, and the other allies was reinforced in the aftermath of the attack on Pearl Harbor.

At the beginning of the novel Golding cleary addresses that Ralph symbolizes order and civilization. “It seems to me we ought have a chief” (Golding 22). Ralph uses the conch shell to summon the other kids in the island. Then Ralph suggest that the boys should choose a chief by voting, that shows the thought of law and democracy. After Ralph is chosen to be chief, Ralph makes a rule on speaking;giving each boy a right to vote. “No one can speak when holding the conch” (Golding 28). Another approach on maintaining order, that Ralph consist is letting who ever is holding the conch shell have the right to speak and can’t be interrupted. The law gives all the boys a chance to contribute and speak on any ideas to improve civilization. The conch shell symbolizes civilization and order throughout the novel. The color of the conch is a creamy white which represents peace and light. The conch shell is viewed as a powerful tool, which is used to hold government meetings.
