In the story “The Lottery” there is this man named Mr.Summers. In the book Mr.Summers takes on a big role. The book described him as a man “ who had time and energy to devote to civic activities. He was a round-faced, joval man and he ran the coal business.” In the story people felt bad for Mr.Summers because had no children and a wife that was cold. However, Mr.Summers had many interesting traits to look out for, as he is the head of the town. Mr.Summers is the head of his town, which means that one of the traits he must have is leadership. Leadership is a big trait you need to have in order to be in charge of things. Mr.Summers would take care of many activities that are happening in the town. The book states “The lottery was conducted as were the square dances, the teen-age club, the halloween program- by Mr.Summers, who had time and energy to devote to civic activities.” Although Mr.Summers was tired and exhausted, he still took the time to take charge of the things he needed to do most. …show more content…

Being organized is a big part of being a leader and taking charge. As the people know, Mr.Summers has to plan all the activities and make sure everything is going smoothly and that everything is where it's supposed to be. In the story there were many times where Mr.Summers was trying to make things go by and the process went like how it is supposed to. “Remember,Mr.Summers said, “Take the slips and keep them folded until each person has taken one.” Mr.Summers always makes sure that people understand what to do, so that they won’t be confused or scared to do what they need
