Imagine winning the lottery thinking you just got filthy rich! But actually it turns out you're not so lucky and you're the one who got picked to die. In the beginning of the story “The Lottery,” the characters seem quite serene doing their own things. The children gathered together quietly for a while before they bounded out into wild horseplay. Men in the village observed their own children and spoke of planting and rain. They distributed smiles rather than laughs. The women greeted one another and exchanged bits of gossip. The same etiquette continued until Mr Summers succeeded in the square. Two characters that impacted the story were Old Man Warner and Mr.Summers. Mr Summers had a round face, he was a jovial man that ran the coal business.
