None of the young men managed to get on the expedition with Lewis and Clark. The impact of the Louisiana Purchase made the young nation feel like there was hope and that there was another place out there. It also made them feel like only men can do things similar to the exploration. There were a lot of young women that would have liked to go but they thought that the women could only do housework, cook, and take care of the family. They also thought that men could only go hunting and do the heavy lifting.
