Eleanor Schneider 3-3-23 Period 1 Mr. Parsloe Literary Essay The Loving Nisha From The Night Diary In the story The Night Diary by Veera Hiranandani, a young girl named Nisha goes through a very rough time having to move away. Nisha finds her voice through her diary and letters to her dead mother. She really wants to know more about her mom, and her nightly letters show that she is eager to stay connected to her. Nisha’s world gets flipped when they are forced to move because of danger in her country due to the conflict between India and Pakistan. Through it all, she continues to write in her diary, but she also finds her voice and is able to grow her family. Nisha has to experience many difficulties, but through all of that, she learns what family truly means. Kazi is hired as a cook for Nisha’s family, and he teaches her that family doesn’t always mean blood-relation. Even though it is their first time meeting each other, Rashid Uncle welcomes them all into his home. He is Nisha’s uncle, but they did not feel like family at first because they didn’t know anything about each other.
