Technology is a great thing. Without technology, our world would not be as advanced as it is. Many corporations today rely heavily on technology, such as hospitals, news media, shopping centers, and more. With the amount of technology today, lives are easier than ever. However, Albert Einstein said best about technology when he said, “It has become appallingly obvious that our technology has exceeded our humanity” (“Technology”). Furthermore, if society is not vigilant, today’s society could end just as the society described in the story. Technology is a huge accomplishment and advancement today. They are able to communicate with each other through pictures without leaving the comfort of their rooms. This is very similar to today’s “Skype” or “FaceTime.” These two programs allow one to see friends and family face to face without having to visit them. Another technological advancement that exists in the story and exists today is that people can press a button for every want or need. The people in the story are able to press a button for their bed to come down from the ceiling, for food to be delivered, for their chair to move, and more. People today are also able to receive many things at the touch of a button. Now, people are able to order a pizza through their televisions, turn their lights on and off by clapping their hands, and watch a news broadcast from around the world. The third huge advancement in the story that is a big advancement today is air travel. The people in the story were able to fly from hemisphere to hemisphere whenever they wanted, which was not often, but the luxury was still available. When Forster wrote this story in 1909, airplanes were up and coming pieces of machinery, but air travel was never thought of. Air travel today is a huge accomplishment
