Solving Crimes In Philip Marlowe's The Big Sleep

In the book The Big Sleep we are presented with the main character who also happens to be the narrator and the detective who goes by the name Philip Marlowe. Like every book we try to figure out who or what kind of person they will be and what causes them to do things and to be the person they are. I’ll start off by explaining what kind of person he was. Philip Marlowe starts off with this quote “I was wearing my powder-blue suit, with dark blue shirt, tie and display handkerchief, black brogues, black wool socks and dark blue clocks on them. I was neat, clean, shaved, and sober, and I didn 't care who knew it. I was everything the well-dressed private detective ought to be. I was calling on four million dollars.” (Chandler 3). We see that he is very focused on his job on solving crimes and may not really grasp the idea on how think of women in the relationship way. It could be because of is wittiness or because he is just very full of himself. In this book though I do feel that his wittiness did cause some issues with him and the two girls, but it also helped him in a way because of how nosey they tried to be. His ethics also played a major roll in them not getting to him. So, the result is that he more so lives to work and doesn’t have a life in a relationship type of way. So, in the end we see how Philip Marlow is a detailed person, kind of self-coincided, witty, loyal honest, and very intelligent and willing to take risk to find the answers to his cases. But we also see his four ethics he lives by. They are staying dedicated to the General and loyal to his job along with not being money hungry and not getting side tracked with other people. That then leads us to show that Marlowe has more of a life in his work than in his relationship life. So we can say Marlowe lives to work and solve
