Creation stories tell of how the world was created based on the who the story originates from. In my home state of Washington State, Makah Indians told the story of the Two-Men-Who-Changed-Things creation story. Chelan Indians told the story of a Great Chief above that created the Indians. Both have different cultural backgrounds and live in different places in Washington. The Chelan Indian Creation story written by Welker is a Creation story told by Chelan Indians. The Chelan Indians also had a creation story about how the Great Chief above created the Indians. The Great Chief had created he made the animals and the birds and gave them their names. The Makah Indians had a creation story about how the animals and birds were created. It was about the Two-Men-Who-Changed-Things. The men arrived when the world was still young so they decided to build the world. The two men had changed a variety of people into different animals, birds, and trees and plants. The men judged the animal on what they did or have done. They turned a thief into a seal because the thief was to have the punishment of having to catch his own food.. As told in the story When the Birds and the Animals were Created, “A creature with a cross temper they changed into a crab apple tree, saying, "You shall always bear sour fruit."”. This shows the descriptive use of words onto what the story calls the “creature with a cross temper”, this is an example of personification in a Creation story. Not to Mention the Personification of animals in Creation of the First Indians, “After twelve moons, the animal people gathered to meet the Creator as he had directed. Some of them had complaints. Bluejay, Meadowlark, and Coyote did not like their names. Each of them asked to be some other creature”(Welker). The personification in shown by the animals complaining, talking animals isn’t what an animal usually does and thus the story has use of personification. This shows the similarities between two creation stories by two different tribes living in the same State. The Purpose of Creation Stories is to guide and teach the people. Shown in Mary’s Creation Story with the Bible it is told to guide the people against bad deeds and/or to Teach and guide the people who follow the religion. This is also shown in the Native American Stories with the teaching of the Indians in the Chelan Indian Story with the painting guiding
