In the short story The Flying Machine by Ray Bradbury, the theme is each invention comes with its own consequences. There are several details throughout the story that supports this statement, relating to the man’s invention. Although the man created his wings with innocent intentions, there were many consequences he thought through in the development of such a creation. First off, inventions have an impact on the inventors themselves. On page five the Emperor stated, “ “Burn the kite and the inventor’s body, and bury their ashes tougher.” “ This was the Emperor had started just after he had the executioner kill the Man for his creation. This demonstrates on how an inventions has an impact on its inventor. For instance, in The Flying Machine the man was killed because of the invention he had created. Some inventors also come to hate their own creations, like Ethan Zickerman. His company provided free websites for use, but were looking for a way to generate revenue. Thus popup ads were created. But he became disgusted at the use of crude adds now occurring on the websites. It is wise to be careful of what you make, for it will live with you for the rest of your life. In addition, invention in the wrong hand can be weaponized or used against their intended purpose. On page four the Emperor states, “I do not fear yourself but another man…. Some else who, after seeing you, will build a thing of bright peppers and bamboo like this. But the other man will have an evil face and
