Thomas and his friends are relied on to restore civilization while overcoming countless challenges standing in their way. Thomas struggles to find his true identity as his life unfolds to be one big lie operated by WICKED to keep him safe. WICKED is a government-assigned organization assigned to study individuals like Thomas, who is immune to the Flare, to find a cure for the virus. Thomas grows hatred towards WICKED as he wants to live a typical life without questioning everything he’s ever known to be true. He refuses to go back, forming the dark night of the soul as he confronts WICKED over the false beliefs they've portrayed to him and chooses to take action to disclose the truth. Thomas becomes a self-sustained individual as he learns to make his own decisions. As a result, Thomas' independence leads him and the Right Arm closer to ending the lies and suffering they have caused. Thomas understands that his actions reveal his identity and can better his destiny, conveying the moment of truth. As Thomas is about to be operated on by WICKED, a distraction as the Right Arm breaks in, he finds a note from a WICKED official telling him to free the rest of the immunes and head into the Flat Trans, where they can live safe and worry-free. Thomas encounters Jansen, grievers, and falling debris from the complex while guiding the other immunes into the Flat Trans. Thomas has a growing hatred towards WICKED as he wants to put an end to the corrupt organization.
