Weeden Honors Seniors English 17 November 2017 The Modern Prometheus Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley was an English novelist, short story writer, dramatist, essayist, biographer, and travel writer, best known for her Gothic novel Frankenstein: or, The Modern Prometheus. Her woke has influenced countless readers, and references to her work can be found in every type of media today. Whale this novel is about a young scientist who creates a grotesque but sapient creature in an unorthodox scientific experiment it is full of full of symbolism and hidden critique. In ancient greek mythology, Titan lord Prometheus is attributed as the creator of mankind, and his brother Epimetheus created the animals of the earth. Prometheus formed man in the god's image out of clay. As father of man he taught them the necessities to be able to survive, like farming, hunting, and building homes to take shelter in. After Prometheus had finished creating man he went to give them a gift, but his brother Epimetheus had already given all the gifts to the animals. Distressed to give mankind a gift he decided to give them the gift of fire, which was only meant for the gods. Most of Victor Frankenstein's pain comes emotionally that came with the death of some of his family members and his close friends.
