THE DEATH OF MERRIWEATHER LEWIS Merriweather Lewis was a national hero. He was governor of the Louisiana Territory, and was renowned by many for exploring the Louisiana Territory with Clark. Lewis was on his way to Washington to deliver possibly classified information, when he stopped at an inn. There were two gunshots heard, and Lewis was found dead, supposedly having committed suicide.
The character trait that Mr. Lewis demonstrates with his words and actions in Chapter 10 of Bud, Not Buddy is caring. A piece of evidence to support my claim is on page 100. It states, “I’ll bet anything you’re hungry. Just so happens that I’ve got a spare baloney and mustard sandwich and an apple in the car. You interested?”
Reginald F. Lewis was an African-American lawyer, businessman, author, and philanthropist. Lewis was a larger than life figure in the business world. His intelligence, determination, and tenacity to all his endeavors and set a standard for excellence that endures to this day. His life story brought him to the city of Baltimore, to the highest reaches of finance in Wall Street. When he passed away at the age of 50 from brain cancer in 1993, Forbes magazine put him on its list of the wealthiest Americans with a net worth of about $400 million.
Overall, in the book, Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis, there are some very strong and applicable points that I believe, should be shared as much as possible. For instance, in the entire book one, Lewis rambles on about the moral law of society, and the outcome of peoples over complicated ways of thinking. He mentions the so called standard of behavior, which it upheld by the thinker to believe that whatever way he sees the situation should be the right way, and however the situation is presented in his mind is how it should be played out. Lewis gives many diverse examples of this action such as, sharing a “bit of orange,” since I “gave you some of mine.” the greed involved with the way of thinking is what Lewis called the law of nature.
In her article, “All’s Not Well in Land of ‘The Lion King’”, Margaret Lazarus tells of the time she took her children to see “The Lion King”. Throughout her essay she explains what she thought of the movie and how it affected her. She explains how the animals in the pridelands are paying tribute to the “infant son that will someday be their king”. Margaret sees them basically as lion food and that they all live together in “supposed harmony in the ‘circle of life’”. She goes on to explain how outside the kingdom there’s a dark gloomy and impoverished elephant graveyard full of hyenas that she feels are stereotyped as African Americans.

The Blind Side is about a young African American boy who was born into poverty and faced many obstacles as he grew up. Michael Oher didn’t grow up with the best life, being in and out of foster homes and being homeless for most of his teenage years.
In Mere Christianity, Lewis explains his view on pride as the greatest sin that has the potential to spawn other sins. Lewis’ view is that pride is comparative and competitive in nature, where a person separates themselves from others. His view of pride is that pride is the main reason for why people do not truly know God. While I do agree with Lewis’ characterization of pride, it only tells half of the story. Understanding of research that came out after Lewis’ time can help show that pride is not just top-down.
Moreover, the writing style of the novel is set in an older form of English, which many youths today falter in, causing the humor to slip through in an effort to understand the overall content. However, obvious uses or irony and exaggeration do stand out. Such amusements stemmed from quick retorts among the characters and far-fetched observations. Additionally, with the prior knowledge of events and subjects presented in the novel that were reviewed in class such as the different branches of Christianity, 17th century events like the 30 years war, and leading figure heads, made it much easier to understand situations heavy with

Clive Staples Lewis (C.S. Lewis) was born in November 29, 1898 –November 22, 1963 and he was a British novelist, poet, broadcaster, and Christian apologist. C.S Lewis wrote “The Four Loves” in 1960. The Four Loves explore the relationships between the different loves a person can experience. The four loves are: Storge (affection), Philia (Friendship Love), Eros (Romantic Love), and Agape (Divine Love). C.S. Edgar Allan Poe addresses the dark and gruesome side of human nature in his writing “The Black Cat”, which during that time and even now are perceived as radical ideas. This dark human nature is displayed in Poe’s writing as the narrator recalls the happenings of a most erratic event. The narrator, a pet lover with a sweet disposition, in this story succumbs to the most challenging aspects of human nature including that of addiction, anger, and perverseness.
