The person responsible for the misfortune to the White family in the Monkey's paw is Mr. White. The Monkey’s Paw is a short story by W.W. Jacobs is a story about a paw that grants three people three wishes. The family gets the paw but the catch is that each wish comes at a cost. The family's first son causes their son's death.
In this essay, i will be telling you about the two stories that we read. First, i will be telling you about “The Monkey’s Paw.” , it’s a story Sergeant Major Moris brings The White family a magic monkey paw that grants any three wishes that you want. The next story is “The Third Wish.” which is about a man that frees a swan that is in trouble that turns out to be the king of the forest.
Throughout the story of “ The Monkey’s Paw “ The author creates tension, mystery, and surprise throughout. Everyone is concerned about the power of the mysterious monkey’s paw The paw is said to grant the wishes of whoever has it in their hand. This power changed the lives the people in one family forever.

In The Monkeys Paw, Mrs. White used the magical object (monkey’s paw). One out of the three wishes granted using the monkeys paw was to have her son back. The outcome of this was pounding at the door, not knowing exactly who was behind the door. The Monkeys Paw is all about granting wishes and not expecting its outcome. This is comparable to The Story of an Hour because Mrs. Mallard wished to have her husband back in her life, but she didn’t expect the outcome of actually seeing her husband alive.
Herbert White, focal character of "The Monkey's Paw is the vital person from the family who works and support financially of his family. Moreover, one day he brought a monkeys paw that was tried to destroy by Morris (he is a major in this story). Morris wanted to destroy it due to the power of monkey’s paw as it is known by all that it has the ability to fulfill the three wishes. However, Herbert’s family did not believe it at all and he wished 200 pounds as he needed it at that time due to pay the home loan. Surprisingly, this wish had come true and Mr. White brought money from the office.
Mrs White says he has everything he wants and isn’t sure what to wish for, and it seems like he had everything. Herbert then says that two of the hundred pounds would enable them to pay off the money owed for the house. Although fate took its toll when Sergeant Major Morris came in with the Monkey's Paw, the White family had many choices to make, to avoid the heart-breaking consequence. The White family are responsible for the tragic emanation, because of the foolish decisions they made throughout the book. When Sergeant Major Morris, visitor to the White family, entered the White's house he revealed a talisman which he got from his travels in India. Fearing the dangers it would cause, Sergeant Major threw the talisman, the Monkey's Paw, in the fire.
