Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin, or commonly known as Mary Shelley, was born in Somers Town, London in 1797. She was an English romantic novelist, biographer and editor. Frankenstein was Shelley’s best known novel which she wrote when she was eighteen years old and it was published three years later. Shelley’s writings focus on the role of family in society and women’s role within the family. She remained a political radical throughout her life based on her many novels that she had written. She died on February 21, 1851 at age fifty-three, probably caused by brain tumor. II. Characters A. Major Characters Victor Frankenstein- the son of Alphonse and Caroline Frankenstein. He desires to learn and to know the secrets of Heaven and Earth. He fervently longs to penetrate the secrets of nature. Frankenstein’s monster - the ugly, fiendish, diabolic creature that Victor created. He brutally killed Victor’s loved ones. She later became the wife of Victor. Henry Clerva l- the school-fellow and best friend of Victor. He is a man of singular talent and fancy. He loved enterprise, hardship, and even danger for it’s own sake. Caroline Frankenstein - the wife of Alphonse and the mother of Victor. She took care of her father until his death.
