I believe that most of you are fairly familiar with the Mortar and Pestle. If you aren't aware, then you should go back and check my previous lessons. As stated, the mortar and pestle are very important in Alchemy. Some cultures believe that the mortar and pestle are a powerful medium. Chinese Alchemists believe that the mortar is the medium to a 'Reverted Elixir.' The Mortar is the big round bowl. There are multiple variants of this, as there are multiple variants of the pestles as well. The pestle acts as the 'spoon' per-say. When you use a wooden mortar, it is used to usually crush small ingredients such as fennel. In Potions, you would use a wooden mortar in certain potions. Usually this is used to help keep a certain taste, or smell in mildly effective potions, in which are also used externally - (ie. Using lavender / rosemary). Clay - Clay was widely used back centuries and milleniums ago. Clay is often viewed to be the starter mortar. Those who practiced medicine would use this form of mortar, as there was nothing else to use. However, it often made the medicine and/or potion taste bitter. Stone - Stone pestles are still used, even in medicine. This is used to ground certain medicines like aspirin. In Alchemy, we often find ourselves either using Graphite mortars, and stone mortars. As the stone itself has a great lingering sensation when it comes its contents. Alchemists use a wide range of spells to help keep their mortar and pestle clean and bruise free. Unfortunately before 1414 AD, there was no spell to clean the mortar and pestle perfectly. During this date, a witch named Powaga Zoraida created the 'Maybe Mortar Charm.'
