Most people when they hear “The Most Dangerous Game” they think of bull riding or other dangerous games that don’t involve death. “The Most Dangerous Game” is a suspenseful cliff hanging story that follows the days of a castaway on the island of a crazed hunter. Rainsford is a big game hunter who falls off a boat near the island of General Zaroff, a big Cossack general who is looking for an alternative to hunting dangerous animals but with a twist. Throughout “The Dangerous Game” Rainsford and General Zaroff both show examples of IRony and exert arrogance.

In the story General Zaroff, in multiple occasions has the upper hand and could kill Rainsford, it keeps him alive because he believes that he could just hunt him again later. That plan fails and Rainsford with his instincts outsmarts Zaroff and kills the hunter when he least expects it. One aspect of Zaroff's appearance is that he appears to be a very handsome man. That conveys a sense of class and kindness that makes him appear as a gentleman. in the text we see that when it describes that, “Rainsford's first impression was that the man was singularly handsome.” The second aspect of General Zaroff’s appearance that helps us understand his character is that he has bold, authoritative features similar to the ones of someone in the military.

There are many themes throughout The Most Dangerous Game. The theme I was felt was most ethical for this story was “Overconfidence can kill you”. Overconfidence plays a big role in people. In the story, General Zaroff was way too overconfident about his hunting skills. Zaroff lived on his own private island in his château along with many prisoners that he serves.
