Some challenges, for example, would include living in a lifestyle that always kept them in poverty, moving around and escaping more than a few times, surviving multiple raging fires, living in a crumbling house, and
Many of my teachers remarked me as “reassuring”, and a lot of my friends have told me that “It seems that you’re so chilled but you actually know what you’re doing”. Yes, I was born with a phlegmatic personality, but it was not until last year when I “failed” the AMC (luckily I was still qualified for the AIME) that I started to learn how to manage time and resource wisely and actually grew up. I spent my first 14 years in my life in China, and in the summer 2013, I moved to US with my family, seeking for new challenges-- I’ve always believed that unfamiliar environment provokes one to learn the most. However though I thought I was prepared for the worst, things got out of hand, as how it goes every time one is put in a new wonder land. It didn’t take more than a month to surmount the language barrier, but
I, AUGUSTINE KIM, was born in El Paso, Texas, but moved to Arizona when I was seven years old. I live with my mom, dad, and older sister. I made many friends within the Asian-American community throughout my life in Arizona, and made more in my schools. When I attended Santan Elementary and Junior High School, I exceeded all of my classes and was respected by all of my peers. However, I slowly became socially awkward and later began to isolate myself from the society after they ridiculed me for my bizarre behavior and intellectual advantages over the other students both average and below average.
Discrimination and racism were common, with many Chinese individuals experiencing prejudice and exclusion in employment, housing, and public services. Chinese immigrants also faced language barriers, as many were not proficient in English or French, the official languages of Canada. These language barriers hindered access to education and job opportunities. Cultural differences also presented challenges for Chinese immigrants in Canada. Traditional Chinese culture and values often clashed with mainstream Canadian culture, creating tensions between Chinese immigrants and the host society.
Being born and raised in a culture and then uprooting your life to pursue opportunities in a different culture can be hard in three ways. First, speaking a foreign language and then coming to America where majority of the people speak English can be difficult to adapt to. When a person has grown accustomed to speaking their native language, it can be problematic to have to pick up an entire new language. Possibilities can be limited because of the restrictions on one’s ability to communicate with other. Second, if a teenager comes to America from a foreign country they will have to take on responsibilities that they normally would not.
At first, the social peculiarity given to me by my migration status and language limitations made me a victim of bullying, which made me want to go back to the safety and similarity of my home country. However, the persistent nature engraved in me by my parents did not allow me to give in to the constant discriminatory voices that kept telling me that I would never be "American" enough.
1. What challenges did immigrants face upon arrival in America? Immigrants traveled a hard and long voyage across the ocean to America in hopes of better jobs and futures with less discrimination. When they saw the Statue of Liberty they knew they had arrived at Ellis Island, in New York.
The downpour ceases. Everyone throws down their brooms, looks at me, at my mom, and then back at me. They welcome me with real Southern Chinese warmth and enthusiasm. But, I cannot offer a reply in return; it is an awkward, disconnected moment as they realize, disappointed, that the land of the Gold Mountain failed to teach me the culture and language of our ancestors. I feel out of place with my American clothes, shoes, and mannerisms.
Throughout my entire life, I think the most significant challenge I have faced is immigrating to America. I spent thirteen years of my life in the Philippines and then all of a sudden, I have to leave everything behind to face a different world from what I grew up with. What was difficult about moving to this new country involved everything from learning new values to settling down on a whole new environment. I had to face the reality of a diverse society and deal with the conflicts that comes with the different cultural values that come along with it.
Challenges are events that are used to change you for the better should you choose it accept it. The challenges I have faced wasn’t a matter of choice but of something that I have no control over. Some people will tell you it’s a burden, some say it’s an entitlement or free ride. Science says it’s just having a high amount of melatonin due to geographical location for survival. To me though, being black probably one of the biggest challenges a human can have in America at least I find it terribly perplexing.
Immigrating to the United States at the age of thirteen has significantly impacted my educational experiences and outcomes. When I came to the United States, I was placed in the seventh grade. From the start, I had many troubles assimilating because of the language barrier, which had a major impact on my learning processes and grades. As my English skills were improved, my educational experiences reflected the change. However, thinking analytically and reflecting on class discussions, I always find myself trapped in a bubble when thinking about my family 's social class standing.
One of the things that has been a struggle for me over the years is the slowness of my reading and the process of absorbing written materials. I was always a bad speller and had a very low self esteem on my academic abilities. Eventually, I came to realize that I must have some sort of reading disability, inherited from my mother who struggled as well with the same issues. When I was in elementary and secondary school nobody ever talked about these kinds of disabilities and I was ridiculed many times from many teachers for not trying hard enough. I was labeled as not living up to my potential, as teachers could tell that I was bright, but couldn 't seem to come up with better grades.
At the beginning it is so difficult to make new friends, because a new country means a new culture, and time need to pass in order to learn the new culture. My biggest advantage over other immigrants was that I had a
USA Today like most publications in this economy has faced many challenges and has had to adapt to the ever-changing economy and opportunities that come along with this environment. Before the so called digital age we live in today, newspaper served as the internet of that generation reporting news and events similar to the way social media does today. (Saunders, R. L. 2015) The challenges in today’s economy that affect the USA today include but are not limited to the following: Continued growth in technology and social media resulting in news spreading like a wild fire, competing in an industry that is evolving, but looks and operates totally different than in the past, growing list of competition, and lastly an economy is which the consumer
The most significant challenge I faced in my life was during my sophomore year of high school during which the music director had quit. This caused the band to have no one to direct it or teach us. This caused the bulk of the effort to be pushed to the few instructors we had and to us the students. This challenge had been present throughout the summer, the marching season, and the concert season.
